Serving Up Fun at Sequoyah’s Literacy Carnival

Last Thursday, the halls of Sequoyah Middle School filled with laughter, good food, and the happy noise of kids having a great time. First Christian Church of Broken Arrow was honored to partner with the school for its Literacy Carnival, and 193 people came out to join the fun.
Every guest enjoyed a free meal, and then the carnival began. At the FCC-BA booth, we played Compound Word Cornhole. Each student took a simple word, built a compound word from it, and then earned a turn at cornhole. Learning and play made a fine team, and the cheering made it plain that the kids agreed.
We will admit we are proud of our festive fall decor, which gave our corner of the gym a warm, welcoming glow. The Halloween sticker tattoos were an instant favorite, too, and plenty of students walked away wearing them with pride.
Thank you to our partners. This night happened because of the collaboration of Robby McBride, Hannah Jones, and Dillon Griffin-Woodard. We are grateful for their vision, their hard work, and their welcome.
Thank you to our volunteers. Our team showed up ready to serve with joy, and they were led by the ever-energetic Bev Forester. Their kindness is a big part of why the evening felt so welcoming.
At First Christian Church, we believe loving our neighbors means showing up for them, especially the youngest ones. Nights like this remind us how much we love this community and the children in it. We cannot wait to see how we can partner with Sequoyah again.
Want to get involved in serving our community? We would love to have you. Reach out to us, or join us on Sunday.
